How is ASL Concepts different than other ASL Curriculum?
ASL Concepts Curriculum is aligned with the national American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards. ASL Concepts is a ready-made curriculum for teaching ASL; it offers a step-by-step guide on how to teach each lesson, including worksheets, parent letters, and assessments. ASL Concepts curriculum gives students a complete understanding of Deaf culture, ASL grammar, and ASL literature.
Is this ASL Curriculum approved by my school district?
Each school district has their own requirements for curriculum approval. ASL Concepts is aligned with the National ACTFL (American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages). A curriculum framework is provided for the unit and standards are listed at the top of each lesson.
How would Deaf children benefit from ASL Concepts Curriculum?
Unlike most ASL curriculum, ours doesn't limit itself to teaching just vocabulary. It includes activity-driven lessons on Deaf culture, connections to the Deaf world, comparisons to other languages, and a look-inside the Deaf community. ASL Concepts is designed for students to have a deeper understanding of the language as a whole and includes access to FREE signed videos of the stories, vocabulary, and grammatical concepts in ASL. Most deaf children already have a firm grasp on ASL, but don't understand the concepts. ASL Concepts is a perfect fit for teaching Deaf children ASL because of its focus on the language as a whole.
